Dr. Chmait received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his Internship and Residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.

In 2004, Dr. Chmait moved to Tampa, Florida, where he trained in fetal surgery with Dr. Ruben Quintero. Over the course of the next two years, Dr. Chmait assisted Dr. Quintero in all fetal surgery cases.

Dr. Chmait was recruited to the University of Southern California (USC) in 2006 to serve as the Director of Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, a program within the Fetal-Maternal Center, a collaboration between the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Dr. Chmait’s research interest is in the field of fetal medicine and surgery, and he has published over 100 manuscripts on this topic.  He is recognized as an international leader in minimally invasive fetal surgery.
