Dr. Eftichia V. Kontopoulos, MD

Dr. Kontopoulos is an internationally recognized fetal surgeon. After completing a research fellowship at Harvard University, she completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Robert Wood Johnson, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she stayed and subsequently completed her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She is double boarded in OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

She then got hired as an Assistant Professor in OB/GYN, Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of South Florida, at which time she received formal training in Fetal Surgery and Fetal Therapy with Dr. Ruben Quintero. In 2009, she moved to Miami where she was Director of Obstetrical Ultrasound and Co-Director of the Fetal Therapy Program at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was Director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Kansas City, Missouri until 2016.

Since 2017, Dr. Kontopoulos is member and Co-Founder of The Fetal Institute Miami, where she practices Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Fetal Therapy and Fetal Surgery. The mission at The Fetal Institute is to provide the utmost care to patients with complicated twin pregnancies, which is perfectly in line with that of The TTTS Foundation. The Fetal Institute shares the passion of The TTTS Foundation in helping families affected by these conditions by providing state-of-the-art counseling and treatment.

Dr. Kontopoulos is a frequently invited speaker on Fetal Therapy in national and international meetings and is also very prolific academically. We are so honored to have her on The TTTS Foundation’s Medical Advisory Board.
